K. Alex Lane Fall 2015 Reel from Kristin Lane on Vimeo.
I found my passion for photography in 2010. It was not until 2012 or 2013 when I decided that I wanted to take on cinematography. I did not think I was going to be as great as I was as a photographer with cinematography. But it was a task I was willing to take on and become the best at. Inspired by artists such as Director X, Va$htie, and Hype Williams, I decided that this was something I wanted to make a career out of. Being inspired by those cinematographers and directors have helped me figure out which direction and what style I wanted to go into. This class helped me me realize that I enjoy interior shots, particularly inside of the production studio. I enjoy messing around with lighting and using curtains as well. I believe that this could influence my work by possibly becoming a cinematographer who enjoys the styles of interpretation, in concert, and impressionist. I hope to develop a style of vision that is somewhat similar to the late 80s and the 90s. I enjoy lighting that requires gels and different colors. I also enjoy effects that are incorporated into videos such as the prism effect or the mirror effect.
Imagery and visuals have always had an amazing creative influence in my life. I hope that one day my work could be considered one of the greatest, alongside those who have influenced and inspired me to pick up a camera in the first.
Lots of great POV shots and I loved the short with the dog. And of course, OFWGKTA.
ReplyDeleteThose flower shots were poppin'!! You've done an excellent job on pushing yourself and trying new things. I loved the content of your scene assignment and what you were going for with the red gels was awesome!
ReplyDeleteThis was a great variety of shots that showed your diverse abilities as a cinematographer. Loved it!
ReplyDeleteTyler the Creator...WHAT?!?! Those shots are BALLIN! Really great reel, Alex! I can't wait to work with you on a music video, i'm so HYPE! I can definitely see you getting into your cinematographer style and I can't wait to see it grow more!
ReplyDeleteI like your lighting choices in many of your shots. Your statement made it evident that you know what style you want to have as a cinematographer and you know others that look to that also have that style. I think it's great that you know what you want and that you're making it happen.
ReplyDeleteI like how you shoot the things that are important to you. I think a lot of students get wrapped up in "what will make the best story" or "I want to shoot whatever looks cool" and they neglect what it is that makes them who they are. You are able to create great stories, shoot the things you love, and make them look cool, a very hard thing for most people.
ReplyDeleteGreat job with this Alex I really like it. I like the angle that you shot the dude in the booth was great. I also like the step team, you really captured those guys having a good time. You think we'll have a class together next semester? We could go 3 for 3!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely loved your doc story with the pitbull! My favorite was the last shot with the dog laying down, it is framed wonderfully. I also liked that you added in shots from the concert and the shots from the guy in the booth. I like that you know what style you want and you're doing a great job achieving it!
ReplyDeleteI loved getting to work with you this semester! I enjoyed getting to see your passion and how it spills over into your work. Those concert scenes of Tyler, the Creator were awesome! Those could be promo videos. I hope you continue filming with your passion!
ReplyDeleteLove it! That last shot of the pit-bull is just wonderful, I loved that doc assignment! You've got a nice variety of shots in this reel. You are definitely meant to be doing what you're doing! Keep up the awesome work.
ReplyDeleteGreat reel Alex! I really love the shots of the flowers, the exposure and contrast were wonderful! And I know this is probably a little mainstream, but I also loved Director X's work on "Hotline Bling." Looking forward to seeing more!
