6/20/2016

Today we started a new group of COCA kids, this is the filmmaker group. We decided that we would take on a documentary, non fiction style films with this group of kids, and boy do they have some crazy ideas.

I have a kid that is doing a film about two guys that turn into vegetables and they are detectives.  There's another kid that is doing a film and all of his actors are things that you would find around the kitchen. These kids get REALLY creative, it's crazy.

Today was my COCA kids last day, and we're kinda sad. They premiered their videos to their parents and they looked great. I was honored to be able to had helped them throughout the entire process of filming and editing their videos.

I learned that kids actually learn and grasp onto things pretty quickly. They learned how to film and edit and put together a project in only 5 days. I was thoroughly impressed.

We get a new group of COCA kids next week and hopefully they are as good as this group.

6/16/2016

I didn't get a chance to come in yesterday because I had to attend a funeral. But my kids missed me apparently. There's a group of girls: Melissa, Katy, Emily, and  Leila that really like me. They always ask me questions about their projects and stuff that has nothing to do with their projects. I had a chance to be in one of Leila's projects she was working on. I also got to help her out with filming and taught her how to get difference angles in her shots.

My kids got their cameras yesterday. A lot of them did not get a chance to start filming. Instead, they did a lot of test clips, just to make sure the cameras work. They also took my advice and shot difference angles just to get a feel of what it is like to shoot with a camera.

We also took them outside today and they had a chance to film and interview each other so they can prepare for their own projects.

6/13/2016

Today was the first day that the COCA Newsmakers Camp came in. It was a pretty crazy first day. My favorite part from today was when we took the kids into the conference room so they can pitch their news story ideas to each other.

A lot of them had good stories, a lot of them had bad ones. But there's always room for improvement.

Tomorrow they are going to start filming their stories.

6/10/2016

Today we got a new group of kids in. The organization is called, inspireSTL. It's a small group of 8th graders on their way to 9th grade. Mike taught them most of the things that they were going to learn so today was a chill day for us interns. I'm sure all the work will begin soon.

6/3/2016

Today was the Lutheran Foundation's last day for open lab. A lot of them actually showed up. They really wanted to make sure that their videos were well put together and wanted to know if there was anything else they needed to do.

It was a pretty smooth and fast day.

5/31/2016

Not a lot of people showed up for class today. It was probably about 7 people that showed up. I guess since it's getting so close to the premiere date for the class they are almost finished with all of their videos.

Miss Diane did not show up today, so guess what? I had to finish her video. I had to check all of the other videos that were completed as well. Most of them looked good, others had a lot of tweaking to be done to them. But we got it done.

Friday is their last day. I'm pretty sure none of them are going to show now.

5/27/2016

So I thought today was the last day for the LF to finish their videos, and it's actually not. They have one more week until their premiere. I'm glad we have an extra week to help work on the videos because some of them still need a lot of help.

My favorite student from the LF is Miss Shirley. She's a sweet lady who reminds me of one of my grandmothers. She always asks me for help, none of the other interns. I think I'm her favorite, and I'm totally find with that!

I've been helping Miss Diane out a lot with her video. She has a lot of work to be done and she's really far behind.

5/24/2016

Today was pretty chill. A few people from the Lutheran Foundation came in to open lab to finish their videos. Friday is their last day to finish their videos for the premiere which is on Tuesday. I'm pretty excited. This is my first group and I'm starting to get adjusted to the software that we use for the classes.

5/21/2016

Today was pretty cool. We had another group from the Lutheran Foundation come in to finish up their videos they made. I liked this group because they were the first group I got to help out with. I really don't have that much knowledge about Final Cut Express yet but with the help of the community members asking me questions, I got to have some experience with it and learn more about it.

They had their showings around 12pm and they were pretty good. It is interesting to see videos from people who have little to no experience behind the camera. Some of them turned out pretty nice.

5/19/2016

Today was a pretty chill day. I didn't do much today. All I did was put some files on a flash drive and do some research on Final Cut Express. However, I finally have the chance to get out in the field on Sunday. I am attending an event that I get to film and interview people at. I'm pretty nervous because I don't like interviews because I never know what kind of questions to ask. Hopefully I get out of that though. It should be pretty fun.

5/17/2016

Today was my first day at my internship. I am working at Nine network as a NineLAB intern. MY supervisor is Mike Pagano and he's pretty chill with a cool hair cut. Today I spent some time looking over the NineLAB handbook that is distributed to people who come in for our workshops. The software they use for editing is Final Cut Express which was ended in 2011. It looks really old and generic. I have no idea how to use it, but I am sure it is pretty easy and simple being that I have experience.

I also met Sonya who I think is Mike's boss. She is really nice. She took me around the building and showed me all of the offices and studios. We had some really good conversations. I even found out that her family is from Auburn.

I think it is gonna be a pretty cool summer working with PBS. I remember watching the channel as a kid and now I have the opportunity to learn how things work with the channel.
